A keystone habit, by definition, is a habit that will promote other good habits, in addition to being beneficial all by itself. Since most people fail, even with the best intentions, to start a new healthy habit; think New Year resolutions - it makes sense to start a habit that will greatly increase the odds that you will succeed in starting and staying with any good habit.
Let's call this mother of all habits the habit of Intention and Reflection, or Notice-Correct.
Take 3 minutes to do this:
Intention
Take 1.5 min to reflect on the most important, must do, actions that you want to complete in the next 3-4 hours.
Reflection
Take another 1.5 minutes to look at the last 3-4 hours, ( note: if morning time, review the evening before). Reflect on the intended action items from the last session of Intention/Reflection and refine based on what went well and what went less than well. This is what an autopilot does. It checks and corrects, continually.
You do this 3 times a day for 3 min each. Less than 10 minutes of time per day.
Morning, mid-day and evening.
You are reconnecting to your intentions, reviewing and revising, on a regular basis, so that any lapses that occur are quickly picked up and adjusted. Notice - Correct - Notice - Correct - Notice - Correct........
Do this one practice and watch your intentions become habits! Your chances of incorporating any other new wanted habit into your life has just increased dramatically.
Thank you Andy for sharing and reminding me of the importance of developing habits and breaking it down into simple manageable actions. Kristi
